Co-Designing Stage-Appropriate Support for Research Translation and Impact

• Research management professionals are increasingly expected to help researchers design, fund, and deliver research that creates tangible societal, economic, environmental, cultural, and community impact. Yet this work is becoming more complex in a constrained research development and innovation ecosystem, where expectations for engagement, translation, partnership development, and impact evidence continue to grow. • Many universities now offer researcher development programs, industry engagement initiatives, impact frameworks, and translation support. However, when researchers first begin pursuing non-academic impact, translation, or adoption, they often do not yet know what support they need. Some seek guidance that is misaligned with the maturity of their project, partnership, or impact pathway. • This interactive workshop introduces an evidence-informed Research Translation to Impact framework and a repeatable methodology for clarifying translation readiness and co-designing stage-appropriate support. • Participants will explore how to take a human-centred and systems view of the research translation journey, considering both the needs of the individual researcher and the project’s pathway to adoption and impact. • Through practical application, participants will learn how to better align researcher development, partnership support, and impact planning with project maturity, researchers’ impact identity and capability, and institutional priorities, enabling more effective engagement, stronger collaborative partnerships, and more targeted research impact support.
